What are Financial Affirmations?
Using Affirmations can also be treated as a powerful tool. Powerful affirmations reinforce positive statements in your subconscious mind and they silence negative self-talk.
Creating a meaningful change to live a better life through good habits can also be done with the help of wealth affirmations.
I first heard of Affirmations a long time ago from Louise Hay’s book, You Can Heal Your Life. Louise Hay is an American motivational author and owner of a self-help publishing empire.
It has been a long time since I read it, but there’s one thing that stuck with me after reading it. I learned that our thoughts are linked to illness or diseases. Even the misfortunes that happen in a person’s life are linked to how that person thinks.
Since then, I’ve been interested in mindsets, and daily affirmations. I do believe that my money mindset affects my financial reality and financial success.
I admit, It’s has been a long time since I focused on money affirmations.
It’s because after paying off my husband’s debt in 2013, we have been managing our money well by practicing money mindfulness. And we’ve always kept a healthy money mindset since then.
Money Mindfulness helps us support our daily needs, and splurge a little bit for nice things and experiences while having enough money for unexpected expenses.
What are affirmations?
Affirmations are used to lean more on positive thoughts and avoid negative thoughts.
If you notice yourself focusing more on negative thoughts, it’s honestly not your fault. It’s because that’s how the brain works.
Negativity bias is the reason why it’s easier for our brains to have negative thoughts than positive ones. This explains why a painful or sad memory is much harder to forget or to get over with.
But the good news is there’s a way to deal with this. You can train your brain to focus on positive thoughts. You’re capable of rewiring your thought patterns. Not easy but certainly doable.
Neuroplasticity or brain plasticity can help your brain modify its connections or rewire itself. It can adapt and change as a result of experience.
It means you can reframe negative thoughts into positive and helpful ones. Reframing thoughts is an essential part of money consciousness, which helps you develop a healthier relationship with money.
Why use Money Affirmations?
If the brain can adapt and change as a result of experience, then it means you need to pay attention to your thoughts.
Naturally, you need those experiences to be positive. But we all know that life is life and it’s not always sunshine and lollipops.
Good things aren’t always around. Negative thoughts are going to come in and out of your mind.
So it’s worth it to make it a part of your daily practice to proactively feed your brain with positive thoughts.
But how do you exactly do that?
This is where the use of affirmations comes in.
Using money affirmations along with intentional actions can lead to a wealthy life and can even promote healthy relationships with family and friends.
A simple phrase with a positive tone can reel you on the right path to achieving your financial dreams.
That said, it’s not limited to money. If you want to cultivate a general positive mindset these benefits are similar.
The use of affirmation will depend on your intentions of doing so but here are some of the benefits of using affirmations
- Financial affirmations are useful in maintaining a Positive Money Mindset.
- Money affirmations are used to achieve money goals.
- Financial abundance affirmations are used to manifest money.
Do financial affirmations work?
You might have been wondering if powerful money affirmations work?
The short answer is, it depends.
Not an ideal answer, I know, but hear me out.
Affirmations are not magic and using affirmations alone is not going to give you financial freedom. It has to be combined with intentional actions, hard work, and making time for financial planning.
So it really depends on how you’re going to go about it.
Using money affirmations goes much deeper than uttering positive declarations.
We’ll get to this in a bit, but let’s have a look at a few things first.

The woo and practical side of things
I am a semi-woo person. I’m not sure if that’s a valid term, but I think it is, at least for me.
I say semi because I appreciate the “woo” side of things, but I lean more toward the practical side of things too.
So when it comes to favourite money affirmations I think of two things:
- Confirmation bias
- Neuroplasticity
Confirmation bias is the tendency to search for, interpret, favour, and recall information in a way that confirms one’s preexisting beliefs or hypotheses, while ignoring or downplaying contradictory evidence. It can lead to distorted perceptions, reinforce stereotypes, and hinder objective decision-making.
Neuroplasticity or brain plasticity refers to the brain’s ability to reorganise and adapt by forming new neural connections throughout life. It enables learning, memory, and recovery from brain injury or trauma.
You may also hear about the Law of Attraction. It states that negative or positive thoughts bring a positive or negative experience into a person’s life.
So if you want positive outcomes, then you need positive thoughts right?
Positive thoughts plus intentional actions that are aligned with those thoughts give you the desirable results, and in this case, it’ll be financial independence.

A personal view on money affirmations
In my personal opinion, affirmations work. But that’s my opinion. Which is purely based on my personal experience and financial growth.
While we are on the topic of money affirmations, let me share a particular win. Not about money affirmation exactly but more about using affirmation to manifest something.
My husband R, is super supportive.
If I told him I could make a unicorn out of thin air, he would probably support me, and encourage me to believe in the idea.
R is the kind of person who may have doubts but he is supportive and always willing to try things out.
When I became “officially an intentional person”, it meant that my mindset had shifted a lot. That includes encouraging my husband to go for a job that supports a fulfilling life.
At that time, R was still in his corporate role.
While working in his corporate job, he was also volunteering in one of our local opportunity or op shops (thrift store).
I casually mentioned affirmations to him. He took it seriously and since then, every Sunday, before starting his volunteering shift, he would text me his affirmation. Just a normal text inserted into our daily conversation.
We have been together for more than 15 years now and we still text each other every day.
Texting me his affirmation was a part of his morning routine before work.

And guess what?
It didn’t take long before he got a new and better job. He finally landed a job with a nonprofit organisation.
A job that doesn’t feel like a job he said, because it’s fulfilling. He also thinks it’s now the current source of inner peace because the new job is meaningful to him.
Something he always wanted to do.
How to use affirmations effectively?
I’m not going to pretend I’m an expert on affirmations because I’m not.
However, from past experiences, I’ve realised that for the affirmations to work, there are 3 elements to consider.
- Belief
- Consistency
- Intentional action
I turned them into steps so you can create your own powerful money affirmations to create positive changes in life.
Step 1: Examine your beliefs
In Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) there’s a concept of “thoughts lead to feelings, feelings lead to actions, and actions reinforce beliefs”. It suggests that your thoughts (mindset) influence your emotions (feelings) which in turn influence your behaviours (actions). And your behaviours can reinforce or change your beliefs.
It’s a cyclical process that can have a significant impact on your thoughts, emotions, and behaviours. Having these elements ll aligned determines the level of the great change in your life and financial success.
Whether you’re practising affirmations on money, wellness, success, and self-care, the first step is to examine your belief.
Start afresh.
It’s like clearing scripts in your inner mind.
Start with examining your beliefs and see if they are helpful. If they aren’t you can manage them by challenging those beliefs or reframing the thoughts behind them.

Start feeding your mind with more positive thoughts. Consume with intention. What you see, what you hear, who you’re with often and the environment you are in, influence your thoughts.
So be selective.
Also remember that belief must come first before practising money affirmations.
If at you’re core, you don’t believe that the affirmation is true, then as you say your affirmation, you’ll feel some resistance. Because your brain is going to keep telling you that it’s not true.
Step 2: Be consistent
Money affirmations are recommended to be said aloud, but of course, you can do it quietly too.
However you prefer to do it, the key here is to do it every day, and every chance you get, if possible. This is useful especially if you’re just starting.
The more you say the affirmations, the faster they become “real” in your mind, and the greater the chance of your positive affirmations to work.
Money is energy, so always take notice of the flow of money in your life. Be grateful when you receive a big amount, and be equally grateful when you receive a small amount.
Step 3: Take intentional action
You can have a solid belief, and you can practice your affirmations consistently, but if you don’t take action you won’t manifest anything.
You have to do at least something that’s aligned with your belief and the affirmations you’re practising.
Let’s take this one affirmation as an example:
“The best thing about me is how I manage my money wisely”.
Saying this all day every day, for as long as you can, will not ever work if all that you do is say it.
So, the sensible and intentional action to take is to start paying attention to your financial situation. Work on what you need to work on and practice Money Mindfulness.
The key is taking intentional actions. Everyday.
Aside from paying attention to your financial situation, and practicing money mindfulness, you can also dedicate some time to consuming knowledge about money.
This will help you manage your personal finance better and will also help you deal with money obstacles.
