Run life like a business to improve your life management
What if you could run your life like a business?
I’ve debated whether I should write about this because I fear my readers would think of me as a crazy woman or a boring person.
But today, I’m bigger than that fear, so I’m ready to share how I run life like a business. And this same principle is used in my blog as a business.
I hope you’ll stay with me because I’m sure if you get to see it the way I see it your approach in managing life and business will change for the better.
That is of course if you don’t already have a smooth system for life management.

Why the business-mind approach?
I honestly don’t know when this started, but I vividly remember how.
My family was having dinner and, as usual, talking about random stuff. I commented about something (and I can’t remember what it was now), and my 13-year-old replied,
“Mum, I am not your business.”
The rest of the family laughed, and to be honest, that chat was fun. It was one of those Friday evenings when everyone was relaxed.
I’m not old, but I honestly cannot keep up with teenagers’ lingo, so the fun chat went on until my husband commented,
“Yeah, Mum has been running this household like a business.”
The teenager, being a teaser in the family, said something back.
Then I replied, “But you are my business.”
Since then, I took my husband’s comment seriously and thought, “I didn’t know I’ve been running the household like a business, so I might as well do it consciously now.”
And that was it. I then applied the same principle in my life and blog.

The Principle of Life like a Business
The more I adapt this “life is like a business” mindset, the more I notice the difference it makes in our lives.
And it’s great.
You know how businesses have Operations, Marketing, Administration, and Management Departments?
Life like a business has them too.
The principle is adapting some business areas as a base structure for running life.
But because I’m always on a mission to simplify things, I just used three of these departments, and they worked perfectly.
- Management
- Administration (Admin)
- Operations
So keep reading because I’m going to explain each of them a little bit more.
Life Operations

In a business context, this is the day-to-day activities that keep everything running smoothly and make progress. These are actions that directly contribute to achieving business goals.
Life Operations is similar. Operations in personal life means daily routines, household tasks, and daily financial upkeep.
This is where the “taking action” happens.
The benefits of having Life Operations in place are reduced stress, saved time, consistency, and more energy for meaningful activities.
Life Management

In business, Management is the department where setting goals, developing plans, and making business decisions take place.
Life Management is about setting intentional goals, crafting plans for the future, and aligning actions with goals and values.
Some benefits of having a Life Management area are having an anchor that always brings you back to the right path. This area contains your mission and vision, your goals, and your plans. This helps keep the alignment between your goals and daily actions.
Life Administration

Administration in business is the area where records, resources, and important business information are organised and filed.
Life Administration is all about keeping life organised. Tasks in Life Administration could include managing personal files, handling finances, tracking bills and payments, and organising important documents.
Having organised Life Administration helps reduce stress, avoid missed deadlines, save money, and gives a sense of control over the moving parts of life.
Putting them all together
Together, these three Life Areas will provide you with a structure that acts as placeholders for your aligned actions.
The aligned actions I’m referring to are Planning (in the Life Management Area), Organising (in the Administration Area), and Execution (in the Operations Area).
They fit nicely, right?
One of the biggest discoveries I made since embracing intentional living is this: whatever you’re trying to do, using a simple framework like POE (Planning, Organising, and Execution) can truly elevate your success.
The problem sometimes is that we know we need to do these three. But the lack of clarity about what and when to do them is where we stumble.
For me, planning needs to happen regularly, but not daily, except for quick daily planning that takes a few minutes. Organising is the same. It’s like maintenance, so it can also be done regularly—weekly, daily, monthly, or yearly.
But intentional execution needs to happen daily.
Keeping this in mind helps me prioritise.

Of course, what works for me won’t necessarily work for you, but I highly recommend giving it some thought and giving it a go.
